I wasn't a huge fan of theirs when they were around. I thought they were okay. Not as cool as Pat Benatar (Although they certainly stayed cooler longer than her) but cooler than ABBA. I also enjoyed watching Nancy do her Lita Ford Lite thang on thee M-T-V after that was invented. That viddy with all the hands coming out of the ground is often on my mind. But here's the whacky part: these chicks that I wasn't a gigantic fan of, and didn't own any albums of, managed to record three different songs that I associate with three different boyfriends of mine, years apart. Plus one that reminds me of a good girlfriend I had in high school. Since I haven't had dozens of people I considered "boyfriends" (or even "good girlfriends" for that matter) and the Wilsons weren't a punk act, I find this omnipresence of theirs in and around my emotional life to be rawther interesting. Perhaps they're the Cool Older Sisters that I would have had if I'd had Cool Older Sisters, although their reported teenage drug intake would have probably gotten them disowned from my family in a tearing hurry.
Hmmm, I wonder if when Ann got all Carnie-Wilson-before-the-surgery, people started calling the two of 'em "Dog and Butterfly"? Meow!
