speaking of meritocracy, iris chang, the author of "the rape of nanking", killed herself. Story here.

oddly enough that book has been on my mind because i have wanted to read it for a while. thumbed through it when it came out but decided i was too distracted/emotionally overwrought at that time to deal with the subject matter. i just saw it on sale for $1.99 someplace so i was going to pick it up shortly.

i am sorry she died, but if i had to deal with that sort of subject manner i fear i would have been wanting to check out myself. or maybe she was drawn to the subject manner because she always DID want to check out herself. it's her business. but i was thinking diane arbus. diane abyss.
