The more things change, the more they stay the same (hair metal version)

In past decades many women railed against the cultural expectations that they be happy little wives and homemakers, dedicated to loving and serving husband and children as a main vocation. That model has been toppled from its pedestal, only to be replaced by another set of expectations. Understated, undercurrents perhaps, but still there. I am expected to be "pro-choice," to be interested in a "healthy" (?) sex life, to be a cheerleader for monogamy, to be a community-minded individual who enjoys sharing my formative life experiences with groups of "supportive" women. I am none of these things any more than I am Susie Homemaker.

It's like Ken Kesey said, it's all a lot of marching. You don't get anywhere till you stop marching and say f'k it.
