thoughts on the conclusion of my first jewelry class...

tomorrow is my last jewelry I class. i realized the other day, after seeing the other students' work and going through crit, that i seem to have a little different approach to jewelry than most others do. specifically, i think i am less interested in the concept of jewelry as an ornament for the body, and more interested in jewelry as a little portable piece of art or something that makes a statement on its own, not necessarily as a decorative object. i'm not saying there's anything wrong with people who focus on the decorative purpose---i own some of that too and even if i don't want to make it myself, my classmates and others do some lovely stuff. it's just that i never concretely realized how my idea of jewelry differed from other people's until now.
